Meghan Trainor’s life outside of music is anything but glamorous. The 31-year-old singer is candid about her “boring” lifestyle, which revolves around family, fitness, and self-care. Trainor’s openness about everything from her mental health struggles to her daily routines has made her a relatable figure for her fans.

“I went out once for dinner and I was literally hungover for two days from going to bed extra late,” Trainor shares. “I can’t recover anymore. If I have one bad sleep, don’t talk to me for two days.” She happily returns to her early nights, finding fulfillment in her family-focused routine.

Early Mornings and Healthy Habits

Trainor’s mornings start early, with her husband Daryl Sabara up by 5 a.m. to meditate. Her two young sons, Riley and Barry, join her in bed at 7 a.m. “They all run to my room at around 7 a.m. and wake me up, which is my favorite,” she says. Breakfast is healthy, with lots of fruit and vegetables sneaked into pancakes. “I always have my giant Stanley cup full of electrolytes and a tiny espresso cup full of vitamins,” Trainor details, emphasizing her commitment to staying healthy.

After breakfast, Sabara often makes Trainor a coffee blended with protein. “It tastes delicious and also has about 20 grams of protein, so I’m like, ‘We’re biohacking,’” she says.

Fitness: Strength Training Over Running

Despite her busy schedule, Trainor prioritizes fitness. She aims to work out three times a week in her home-based gym. “I’m all strength training now,” she explains. After trying running for a week, she found it wasn’t for her. “I tried for four days straight and I gained four pounds of pure inflammation, pure anger,” Trainor laughs. “My body was like, ‘No, thank you.’”

Now, she’s dedicated to building muscle. “I’m a nerd about building muscle and eating protein, but I wish they taught me that in elementary school,” she says. She hopes to pass this knowledge to her children while encouraging them to see food as fuel and exercise as essential.

Mental Health: Therapy and Support

Trainor makes her mental health a priority, attending therapy weekly. “I’m on my beautiful antidepressants that I love so much,” she says. She and Sabara also recently started marriage counseling. “We heard our friends were in couples therapy, which made us wonder if we should do that, too,” she says. The couple have so far been pleased with the results.

Trainor believes in asking for help, especially with childcare: “We have an incredible nanny who comes Monday through Friday. I don’t know how we’d live without her.” She also turns to her family and friends for support.

Family Time and Simple Pleasures

Trainor and Sabara value their family time. After eating dinner, they enjoy quiet moments with the kids while cuddling and watching music videos. “It’s the best part of our day,” she says.

Trainor also enjoys winding down with simple snacks like Zevia or ginger ale: “I usually just drink water, a Zevia, or maybe ginger ale.” She keeps her skincare routine minimal with products like Avène lotion and snail mucin serum.

Embracing Simplicity and Self-Care

Meghan Trainor’s 5 to 9 reflects her priorities: family, fitness, and mental health. Her willingness to embrace simplicity, ask for help, and focus on what truly matters makes her relatable to many. As she says, “I’m doing the best I can, and that’s all anyone can ever do.”
