For the second time in a month, a major international industrial investment has found its home in Northern Mississippi. ABB’s $40 investment in Senatobia, by the Switzerland-based leader in electrification and automation technologies, is enhancing its operations there. In an announcement from the Mississippi Development Authority earlier this week, the move brings 122 new jobs to the area.

This most recent development consolidates the contribution of the region’s increased participation in the advanced manufacturing sector, even as the number of projected new job openings has been reduced from earlier estimates.

Job Projections Lowered from Original Plans

ABB first outlined its US expansion strategy in March, announcing a $120 million nationwide investment to meet rising demand for low-voltage electrification products across sectors such as data centers, commercial buildings, and utilities. As part of that plan, the company had projected 200 new jobs for its Senatobia facility.

However, those projections have now been scaled back to 122 positions. Simultaneously, ABB will create an additional 50 jobs at a new advanced manufacturing facility in Selmer, Tennessee. The shift reflects a redistribution of its workforce rather than a pullback from its broader commitment.

Facility Expansion to Boost Production Capacity

The expansion in Senatobia includes a 200,000-square-foot addition to ABB’s existing manufacturing site and the installation of new equipment. The upgrades will support increased production of air circuit breakers and molded case circuit breakers, key components used in various industrial applications. Construction is expected to be completed by the first quarter of 2026.

State and Local Support Behind the Project

The Mississippi Development Authority backs the project through the Mississippi Flexible Tax Incentive (MFLEX) program. Tate County and the city of Senatobia are also contributing support to ensure the expansion’s success.

“MDA is proud to once again support ABB as it grows in Senatobia,” said MDA Executive Director Bill Cork. This investment builds on the tremendous economic development momentum the company envisions across Mississippi. The location, infrastructure, and dedicated workforce will continue attracting global companies.

Economic Impact for Tate County

Local leaders welcomed the news, emphasizing its positive impact on the community.

“More jobs in our area means more residents living and working in Tate County, which is great,” said Anna Cardona, the Tate County Economic Development Foundation executive director.

The expansion is expected to increase local employment and strengthen the region’s industrial base.

ABB’s Growing US Presence

ABB, which was previously called Asea Brown Boveri, is active in 85 countries and has 461 local offices, 43 of which are in North America. ABB employs 17,000 people in the US at 40 manufacturing, distribution, and research sites across 20 states. Since 2017, ABB has invested $3 billion in the United States.

Regional Investment Momentum Continues

The investment announcement comes close to another big news announcement regarding investments in the area. GE Aerospace recently announced investments of $1 billion for its operations in the US in 2025. $11 million from this investment has been earmarked for its facility in nearby Batesville, just 20 miles from Senatobia.

Together, these developments point to continued growth for North Mississippi as a destination for high-tech manufacturing and advanced industrial investment.
